What is retail fulfilment?

Retail fulfilment is the storage and delivery of your products to shops and retailers (B2B): cartons with a delivery note for independent shops, and cartons or full pallets for retail chains and retailers.

Larger retailers often set strict requirements: a GS1 label with a unique pallet number (SSCC), an electronic despatch advice via EDI and a booked time slot. If something isn't right, your delivery is refused. Everything about it is explained in supplying retailers.

How retail fulfilment works at Sendwit

Sendwit takes over the entire delivery to your retailers. Orders come in via EDI, we build the pallets and make sure everything reaches your retailer on time and by the rules.

Here's how it works, step by step.

  1. Magazijn met hoge palletrekken en een heftruck

    Step 1

    Receiving and storage

Your manufacturer or supplier delivers your stock to us on pallets or in cartons. We count and check every pallet and carton and book everything in within 1 working day. If the quantities don't match, you get a notification with photos the same day.

Every pallet gets a fixed location in our pallet racks; smaller quantities are stored per carton on shelves. Your portal shows live how many pallets and cartons per item are ready for your next delivery.

  2. Medewerker maakt een order klaar aan een inpaktafel naast rekken met bakken

    Step 2

    Orders via EDI

Retailer orders come in via EDI, through our EDI partner, so you don't need an EDI system of your own. We work with the GS1 standard used by Belgian retailers.

What EDI is exactly and which messages go back and forth is explained in what is EDI?

  3. Twee mensen tussen stapels verzenddozen

    Step 3

    Retail-ready pallets

We build the pallets to your retailer's requirements, with a GS1 label and a unique pallet number (SSCC). Before delivery, we send the despatch advice (DESADV) and book the time slot.

Pallets go with a regular pallet carrier. Labelling, preparing displays and assembling sets are charged per hour or per piece.

  4. Rijen open kartonnen dozen

    Step 4

    Cartons to shops, and returns

Independent shops receive their order in cartons or on a pallet, with a delivery note.

Every return is checked, registered and reported to you within 3 working days. Anything in good condition goes back into stock.

Frequently asked questions about retail fulfilment

Do I need my own EDI?
No. We handle the electronic messages with your retailer through our EDI partner.
Can you deliver to any retailer?
We work with the GS1 standard used by Belgian retailers. We look at each retailer's specific requirements when we start.
What is an SSCC?
A unique number per pallet or carton, in a GS1 barcode on the label. Your retailer scans it on receipt and matches it to the despatch advice (DESADV) we send in advance.
Do you also deliver to independent shops?
Yes. Independent shops receive their order in cartons or on a pallet, with a delivery note.
Can retail and my webshop ship from one stock?
Yes. Parcels to consumers, cartons to shops and pallets to retailers, all from the same stock.
How quickly can I get started?
On average 1 week from our first conversation to your first shipped order. We set up the integration with a retailer once.
